I'll post something substancial later, but for my crafty friends -- figure out some use for the dozen Nintendo DS boxes I have lying around. They're like DVD cases, but smaller/different proportions. I already store the games in smaller cases because the games themselves are only slightly larger than a postage stamp. (Seriously, Nintendo, I'd rather you go back to the cardboard box that comes with a tiny hard plastic game case and an instruction book -- the original Game Boy/Game Boy Color method. Even if the DS boxes include storage space for a Game Boy Advance game as well.)

This started in a roleplaying game. I was playing a character with almost supernatural levels of fearlessness*. As part of a plot, she was (slightly) transformed and lost her natural fearlessness.

( Two things emerged as I played her.  )

* Not actually supernatural, though. I've played paladins in 3rd edition D&D who are supernaturally immune to fear, even magically-induced fear. IIRC, Kender in the Dragonlance books have the same ability.

Hearing a lot of annoying things in politics today -- like the NPR story on the Texas Primary, about the candidate who is 'pro-life, no exceptions'. When yesterday I read about a woman in Nicaragua who is being denied life-saving cancer treatment because she's pregnant and it will kill the baby -- abortion is a death-penalty offense in Nicaragua, no exceptions. (Never mind that the cancer is doing a pretty good job of killing the mother, which will kill the baby. Did I mention she has a ten year old at home?) Earlier today, I read an article on animal-rights activists stalking scientists to the point of rapping on their home windows periodically and passing out fliers at their children's schools telling them that little Johnny/Janey's daddy kills puppies. And a friend linked an article about how more and more it seems like people treat even facts like where the president was born as subjective facts subject to their own biases. If you show them the sources, they just either deny the authenticity or move the goalposts.

More and more I get the impression that people don't think, especially outside their little bubbles. It's depressing and I want to curl up into a ball until people get smarter. (The freezing rain doesn't help. It's easier to feel good about the world when it's sunny out.)

I got some writing done this week, but not much -- about 300 words on the Firefly story, which is shaping up to be The Women of Firefly Do Stuff*. What I need to do is edit, but I've been feeling blah.

* Okay, I think Inara isn't in it, but it's looking like this is going to be Zoe, River and Kaylee's adventure, post BDM.

Other than that, the diet maintains, though my attempts to exercise were thwarted by the fact that I can find every CD, DVD, Playstation and Game Cube disk that I own except for the Dance Dance Revolution one.

My internet connection is also flaky, in that I cannot stay logged into an Instant Messenger for more than five minutes.

I continue to play games, except my rate of progression has slowed to a crawl as it takes me five attempts to beat any given boss. Currently I'm in the Dwarf Kingdom in FFIV and trying to smack Golbez. Even though I know the moron will just run off instead of letting me dead, if I know anything about game bosses. I could switch back to Chrono Trigger and the pre-Lavos sidequests, I suppose.

I got The Legend of Zelda: The Phantom Hourglass for Christmas. Surprisingly, I do not suck as badly as I normally do at Zelda games (I love them, but boy do I stink at them.) I think it's because I can play this one with just the stylus, so I don't even have to flail about with buttons.

I have still fallen into lava, got burned in the fire temple and drowned a couple of times. (What the heck? Can't Link swim?)

Also have Chrono Trigger, but I'm taking a break, since Magus kicked my ass.

So, I played 4th edition for the first time last night.

So I bought the sequal to Golden Sun when I was back in Nebraska -- I saw it used and couldn't resist. One of the features of the game is that you can import yoru guy from the first game, either by linking two Game Boy Advances together or by Password. The full password is 260 characters long to get complete data -- it''s only 61 for partial data.

I have tried at least four times to get this password in, and have yet to get one that's viable. I know enough about encryption to know that there's probably a failsafe against typos in there, but when I've checked and double checked the password and my entry of it, I'm this close to wondering if this is why the game was in the Used bin.

If anyone knows anything that would be helpful, pass it on.
